It is VERY important that you thoroughly understand the policies as they are posted on http://webmasters.ocbsa.org

The site that you create will be checked periodically by running scripts that we use to catch some of the most flagrant policy violations. If your site should be found in violation of these policies the DNS will be pulled and the site will go off-line. Therefore, please take the time to familiarize yourself with the policies. Should you have questions, please inquire.

Publishing information is available online under the Helps" page of the webmaster's site. If you have forgotten the password, then you must fill out the web site request form again and choose a new password.

Do not ask for the password to be Emailed to you as this is not done for security reasons. If  you experience a problem with access to your site, please use the Problem Reporting Form available on the webmaster's site to communicate your needs. Do not send me an Email without first sending in the form. I will not respond to requests for help regarding a web site without the form.

Many of the questions that webmasters have asked are already answered in the Help and Frequently Asked Questions section. If you are having a problem, please refer to those pages before requesting assistance.

During the tenure of a webmaster it is not uncommon for Email addresses, phone numbers or even a mailing address to change. If any of the personal information that you submitted on the Web Site Request Form should change – especially your Email address – it is important that you fill out another form and advise us of the changes.

You will be provided with a unit Email address that will automatically forward mail to your personal Email address that you provided in the web request form. It will take a few days after your site has been configured before the Email address is completed. You will be notified by Email when it’s ready.

When information is important enough to be transmitted to all webmasters we will use your Email address as a means of communicating with you. If mail bounces when sent to your Email address, the logon to your web site will be closed until we receive an updated Email address.

To avoid this from occuring please keep us informed if your Email or other information should change during your tenure as a webmaster.

The format of the Email will be based upon the unit+number. "Unit" will be "troop", "pack", "crew", etc, followed by the unit number of your unit. (ie, troop123@ocbsa.org or pack123@ocbsa.org).

Once you are notified that your site is ready to accept content you will have two weeks to post the required minimum content per policy. If the site remains empty or does not contain the required minimum requirements it may be removed from the server.

When you decide to step down as the webmaster please advise your replacement to fill out the Web Site Form like you did. Do not give the password to anyone. Your replacement must use the form and choose a new password. In order to keep yourself updated regarding announcements and other issues of importance, you are urged to review the webmasters site at least weekly or more often if possible. Information is often posted there in regards to tips, server issues, policies and other items. Good luck in your endeavors!
