COPYRIGHTS
The web has millions of graphics, logos, icons, etc., that are copied freely and used on personal sites. These include, but are not limited to, browser logos, business icons, graphics, sound files, mpg files, and photos. All graphics, images, text, photos, logos, sound files (midi, mp3, mpg, etc) , that are NOT BSA property or which you do not have title to use, shall NOT be placed on the server or any site sponsored by the Council. Use your creative ability and draw up your own graphics or special logos, captions. This includes JavaScript, Java or other programming techniques. The modification of copyrighted material and the subsequent posting to the server is also prohibited. This includes the copying of content from any source and its subsequent posting on domains owned by this Council. Also included in this is the copying of pages or information that is on the Council or the Webmaster's site. Webmasters are encouraged to link to the information on these sites, but asked not to copy the pages and republish them. All material published to the server is expected to be in good taste. Material that violates Council policy will be removed from the server. Photographs of groups or individuals should not to be identified by their full name, address or phone number without their written permission. Instead, use brief captions such as “Camporee” or “Our Scoutmaster/Cubmaster” or “A Group of Smiles”, etc, to lend humor or draw attention to the photo while still maintaining the privacy of each individual in the photo.
Official BSA Material
All printed literature sold at the scout shops or available from National BSA, is not to be duplicated and placed on web sites that are hosted under any domain that is owned by Orange County Council. Items that are distributed freely, such as fliers or tour permit forms, etc., which are not sold, but which are made available freely for information purposes may be posted to web sites. Webmasters are encouraged to link to the Council web site and make use of their forms instead of creating duplicate copies that may be out of date.
Many Internet sites purport to have information on their web sites that reflect National BSA guidelines or policies. Official policy comes only from National BSA and the local Councils. Webmasters are to exercise care in the posting of any statement to insure that what is posted is in accordance with official policy. If the policy is posted on the Council site, link to the Council page instead of re-producing the policy on your web site.
Information regarding advancement or merit badge requirements is not to be copied from the official publications and posted on web sites.
